He took in a deep breath of smoke, flicking his cigarette to the ground as he looked off into the hazy sky. There was a pause of silence, only the sounds of his foot shuffling against the gravel. “Kid.” He began, looking over at the younger boy. He was about to tell him it was adult stuff. But no. It wasn’t anymore. It was life. This was how things were. This was their world now. “There isn’t a cure. Bitter…he’s gone.” He pulled out another cigarette and lit it almost instantly. “Entre did it for us. For the living.”
